Kuchenprofi 021202 Details info:

Zassenhaus began in 1867 as an export store supplying small steel goods and hand tools. Then in 1904, the foundation for the future success was laid with the introduction of pepper mills. In 2000 Zassenhaus invented the first continuously adjustable grinding mechanism made from high quality German ceramic. Zassenhaus products are distinctive and unique and solidify our position as the leading supplier of premium spice and coffee mills. A mill is as good as its grinding mechanism as this alone determines how much flavor and aroma is released when the spices are ground. Zassenhaus patented German ceramic mechanism is for peppercorns, sea salt, spices and dried herbs. Each mill features six different adjustments from rough to fine grind. The original design of the 5.1-inch Speyer Pepper Mill dates back over 100 years. And while the look is that of a cherished antique, the inner workings are decidedly high-tech, featuring Zassenhaus' patented CeraPlus(R) German ceramic grinding mechanism that's actually harder than carbon steel. And unlike steel, whose blades corrode and become dull over time, the CeraPlus grinding mechanism is guaranteed for 25 years of flawless service. To grind, simply turn the charming crank, crowned by a ball finial. You can adjust the coarseness or fineness of the grind by twisting the 6-position dial ton the bottom. To fill, simply unscrew the top knob. Lathe-turned from solid beechwood in a dark stained finish.

Kuchenprofi 021202 Review by Glen

I bought this grinder for fresh ground pepper. It's fast, adjustable and high quality (unlike many I've tried). The only thing keeping it from 5 stars is the rather small amount of pepper corns it will hold.

Kuchenprofi 021202 Review by Brian (Chicago, IL)

After spending more time that I possibly should have deciding which pepper mill I wanted to spring for, I settled on this very unique looking Zassenhaus Speyer mill and almost a year down the road, I am very happy with my purchase. The quality of the mill's construction makes it feel as though it will not break anytime soon. The knob used for setting the coarseness/fineness of the ground pepper works smoothly and as outlined in the product description. The only part of the mill that looks like it could ever break is the adjustment knob which appears to be plastic. However, the knob does not feel flimsy or ill-fitting, just less Victorian-era indestructible than the rest of the mill. Honestly, I found a coarseness that I liked and rarely adjust the setting knob.

The only other comment that I will make is that the mill grinding handle on top is fairly hard to turn. If you expect to hold the mill in one hand and use your other hand to grip the little wooden ball and turn the mill crank smoothly, you are definitely going to be disappointed. I normally use my thumb and forefinger to turn the crank next to the spindle where it attaches on the top of the mill's wooden housing. I don't believe that I am using inappropriate sized peppercorns that would cause the handle to be so hard to crank and I have used various brands and varieties of peppercorn since I bought the mill and they all grind the same way. Fortunately, I have no trouble using the mill myself, though I could see others possibly fighting with it. Despite this, I would buy this mill again in a heartbeat - it looks great, it is well-made and durable and ultimately delivers a very consistent grind.

Kuchenprofi 021202 Review by Tee Ball "Frank Lee Speaking" (no walmart in my town)

We've been reading reviews of pepper mills off and on for quite a while, and caught a lead to this one from another reviewer. We have always had the type with the twist top, usually acrylic that eventually cracks. This mill seems to be very well made and and we really like the crank mechanism over the twist style. It has an adjustable grind and no matter the setting, you can really crank out the pepper. It's a little tough to fill and doesn't hold a ton of corns, but how often do you really need to fill it anyway? The crank can be a little hard to get started, but once in motion the flakes really fly. Easy to hold the body while cranking and doesn't leak in the cabinet. Ceramic mechanism should hold up forever.
